As a resident of Southend, I regret to say that I never knew the name David Amess, before the nightmare of October 15, 2021. This owes to the fact I have autism and have never been interested in or know anything about politics. However, the tragic events affected me and my family in my own way. I feel sympathy especially for David's family. This was a terrible tragedy that should never have happened. I can only pray for his family who have to live with the grief and horror.

I think of Sir David Amess, as one of the Diamonds of the Human Race! May he rest in eternal peace . Let his humanitarian actions set a great example, to be followered by politicians and leaders around the world! His life was stolen from us has been a sore ; but the memory of his battles for Human Rights shine bright and will never die! Love and Respect!

I have always been moved by your story. Having just seen the BBC programme of your senseless and reprehensible killing I found somewhere where I could share my thanks and appreciation of you. I didn't click remembrance because I feel this is a message of gratitude to you David, for the person you were and I want that admiration to go to you personally. My thoughts and feelings go our to your family. For the great loss you have all suffered but for the remarkable husband and Father I see that you had. Thoughts and condolences and many thanks.

This is absolutely devastating to have lost an MP like Sir David, only doing what he committed himself to, and giving his best. Communities thrive when they feel genuine representation, and his death in this manner was appalling. Very sad times we're living in. Let's pray that this can never be repeated, and reflect on the legacy of Sir David, who worked over a long term diligently. 🙏

Sir David Amess MP was a great believer in family and community. His help and support during the founding of The Culpepper Club in Basildon will be remember with great appreciation. To have a local MP with such love and understanding for his community and their needs will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace.

David, we remember when we lived in Langdon Hills there was a tragedy concerning one of our neighbours. You came to the scene and knocked on our door to make sure we were all ok. you were very caring and concerned about how it had affected us all. We have always voted Conservative but this was a non political sensitive and thoughtful thing to do and we have never forgotten your concern for others. We were privileged to have you as our MP and friend.

Especially his wife and kids. We hope all efforts to be an ambassador for Essex does not go in vain and that someone would take over the baton to drive his vision and objectives forward. I worked with you when you first won Basildon in 1983 and attended your celebration party. You were a friendly 'people' person from day 1 and made everyone feel welcome. It was disappointing from a Basildon point of view when you moved to Southend but you never changed in your hard work for your constituents and for Great Britain. Thank you for everything you have done, you will be sadly missed. You are certainly a one-off and Parliament will be a worse place without your care for the Nation and sense in working for the best option rather than following the party line if you disagreed with the potential result being bad for your constituency and, ultimately, the Nation as a whole. You stood by your beliefs and loved meeting people and were prepared to listen to them irrespective of their opinions even if they were not yours. God bless you and welcome you to his heart. You were a human, human being. May God be with your family and help them to understand why.

I met Sir David a couple of times when he visited the Basildon training centre where I worked in 1995-96. He was most interested in the youth training work we were doing and was very friendly and charming. To know that he died in this way is appalling and completely unthinkable and as a regular watcher of PMQs I will miss his dedication to Southend on Sea where I lived for many years, particularly his references to the merit of awarding Southend city status and I hope this will now happen. My sincere condolences to his family and friends for their terrible loss.

I remember David as an honourable man , courteous to those who didn't share his political views , passionate about fighting for his constituents (I never heard him speak in Parliament without namechecking his constituency) and the issues which he cared about and despite there being a Conservative government in power for well over half his time in Parliament chose not to seek advancement there. In fact I was once at an event in Southend when he was interrupted by a mobile phone call. He looked at it and ignored and silenced it , saying "it's only the Whips Office , they only ever call me when they want something so I'm sure they'll call back if it's urgent !". It's a cruel irony that a man who treated political opponents with politeness and reasoned argument should such a fate from those who don't respect the democratic process.

Although I never met Sir David, I know that he was an approachable man who would be willing to talk to you if you met him in the street. Having met David many years ago, before he won Basildon, I remember his rare quality of warmth and friendliness with humour while still showing that he was taking my views absolutely seriously. His upbeat humour was never used in a dismissive manner, and whilst he commanded my respect, I thought him too nice for politics. He was! That’s why he devoted himself to his constituency! Essex gained a fine man, in David Amess, and now Heaven has gained a fine soul. Long may you be remembered down here David, for your example to humanity.

My family didn't know Sir David Amess personally, but we do know that he was a wonderful Christian man, who did so much for other people. It was such a shock when we heard the terrible news on Friday the 15th of October, that Sir David Amess had been stabbed to death. We all feel so deeply sorry to Sir Davids family and can't possibly imagine what they are going through, we just hope that they may get some satisfaction, knowing that Southend -on-Sea will become a city, all down to him and that so many wonderful ideas are being discussed, as to how we can commemorate this Amazing man, that was our very own Sir David Amess. We hope that the evil murderer gets the sentence he deserves on his day in court.

It is so difficult to understand why he was taken from his loved ones in such a violent way. Life for his family will always be tainted by this dreadful act by a stranger who under different circumstances Sir David would have helped in anyway he could. Let us pray for his family to find the strength they need to cope with this tragedy. Eternal rest grant into Sir David, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him, may he rest in peace. Amen Let us try and find forgiveness in our hearts for the perpetrator and strive to build a safer world where we can live together and become richer with the integration of other cultures/faith/lifestyles and not let hate or ignorance be part of who we are. Rest in Peace my brother and my former MP. You were a gift to the people of Basildon and latterly Southend. But more importantly you were a gift to the nation and we are sorely missing you. Missing the heart of love and integrity in the House full of career polititian. You were a rare gem to your friends and foes alike and to the nation. I know that you are my brorher because you demonstrated the love of Christ to humanity. Your heart for projects that no doubt touched the heart of God was unprecedented. You were known to following things through to completion once you take it on board. You are loved and respected by all with your love and candidness. I know i have lost a brother and i pray that i will see you again at the appointed time. So i do not say good bye. May the God of all comfort, comfort your family and loved ones at this difficult time. May He envelop them in His warm embrace and show them you are ok in His presence. May the Lord comfort your constituents and the whole nation and cause good to come out of this tragic incident. May the Lord teach and show us how to lead by the example and passion you desmonstrated for fellow human beings. Love and miss you. God rest your soul now until we meet again. Every blessing.

David you were so hard working and cared for your local area when you worked for Basildon Council. We delivered your leaflets and spoke to residents on their door steps in 1992 you really believed in what you were doing. You were elected as MP which was right and fitting as you believed in Basildon and in the people that lived there. Also having the same beliefs in the people of Southend. R I P David my thoughts are with your family at this dreadful time.

Sir David Amess was very kind person. He spent all of life in caring people. No one can replace him. Very good listener and always avaiable to help whenever and whoever asked his help. By profession he was politician but he naver acted like politician. How unlucky we are that left alone behind him. No wonder he got title of Sir He served country day and night. Very down to earth and simple life he spent. In council if someone become councilor he naver give reply of email or call but sir always reply to my mail and answear my query although have a huge responsibility of work. We hope our kids will follow his way of life and try to fullfill his dreams. Finally his one dream came true that Southend is going to city. He raised his voice alot of time that Southend must be city now but No one listen to him until he passed away and let us cry. May God bless him and place him at the best which he deserves

I met David many years ago when he was a fledgling MP. He came to our office in London where he would meet his wife to be, Julia, who worked in my department. They were so looking forward to their Wedding and the reception, the first ever to be held at the House of Commons. My friend Pat made their Wedding cake. I was sadly ill when the wedding took place, but we were so proud of Julia. David was a lovely, genuine person and I am so sorry for Julia and their wonderful family. Words cannot express how I imagine they feel? My deepest and most sincere wishes to all of you. Why somebody would want to do this to such a lovely man, who's only ambition in life was to help people, is totally beyond me. Rest in peace David. You are a huge loss to the nation.

Sir David epitomised public service. He worked tirelessly for his constituents and worked across party and religeous lines. Personally, he was a great help to my, then, wife and I. We married in 1993 and he helped us get out of our bedsit and into a 1 bed flat. I wonder how long we would have been in a bedsit with a baby had he not intervened on our behalf? We need more politicians like him. He will be sadly missed by family, friends and the wider community.

David was well known and thoroughly decent, honourable and passionate. I recall a story from a senior director for Mobil who said what dedication and long hours he worked. It is an incredibly sad loss for his constituents and those of course who met him who must number in the many thousands. It is almost inconceivable to think this happened in the one place where Sir David lent the generosity of his time, experience and passion for his constituents in such a selfless way. It will be some small comfort to his family and the many that loved him that one of his passions to have Southend recognised as a City. Would that it could have happened while he was alive to celebrate it. There are no words really to express the regret and loss of this dedicated public servant. David S

When he was younger, Sir David (as he became) was a vibrant MP for Basildon (where I lived at the time). I was sad that he left Basildon for Southend as I thought Basildon needed someone with his drive and potential. It's a sad state of affairs when MPs aren't safe on the streets or in the surgeries of their own constituencies.
