When he was younger, Sir David (as he became) was a vibrant MP for Basildon (where I lived at the time). I was sad that he left Basildon for Southend as I thought Basildon needed someone with his drive and potential.
It's a sad state of affairs when MPs aren't safe on the streets or in the surgeries of their own constituencies. People like him, and Jo Cox, were the thinkers and doers of the Government and dependable for the folk they represent.
Thoughts and condolences to his family and close friends, but everyone will miss him.
